I am not a tidy person. My mom always told me it was because I'm artistic; I think I'm just a slob. Regardless, when I got married I realized just how difficult it was to keep a house tidy when the responsibility fell entirely on me.
Our first apartment was disgusting, needless to say. We didn't have anyone over for dinner for the entire first year of our marriage. I was so embarrassed.
Then I found Flylady! It is a wonderful site full of excellent and easy suggestions for how to keep a house tidy. There are small, manageable steps to reach your goals that are e-mailed to you daily. It has saved me numerous times when I felt overwhelmed.
It is an excellent site especially for new mothers. It really helped me keep my head above water while my son was still just waking up several times during the night.
Today, the task was to take a soapy rag and wipe down my kitchen counters. The instructions said to move appliances as I went and to scrub underneath them.
Check it out!
Do you have any secrets to keeping a clean house?
My secret is to always tidy the house before bed/sleep. I may have fallen asleep reading, or at the computer (means a "crick" in the neck), or feel awful...as in, 'the whole month of January' so far; but I force myself to spend 15-20 minutes picking up, straightening, having son put all his toys away and tossing dirty clothes in hamper after changing into pj's.
